Online Video Counselling
Online video apps such as Zoom and Skype allow counselling to now be even more accessible from the comfort of your own home.
Who is online counselling for?
Anybody! Whether you have; a busy work life with unpredictable hours, have young children to care for at home, have mobility issues, live remotely or have anxiety about meeting someone face to face, online sessions can really open the door to accessing counselling.
What are the benefits of online counselling?
Other than ease of accessibility, as discussed above, online counselling enables you to be in control of your own environment. You can have your own things around you to help you feel calm.
How does it work?
Connecting is easy. Zoom is a free to download app for phones, tablets and laptops. Prior to each session I will send you a web-link to access your private online 'waiting room' and I will meet you there at the time of our appointment. Each session will then last for 50 minutes.
Zoom is a secure and encrypted platform, which complies with the security requirements of the 2018 General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
If you are more comfortable with Skype then sessions can also be held this way.
Not comfortable with technology?
Please do not worry. I can talk you through getting set up with a free initial 20 minute session. After that each session will be scheduled weekly and last for 50 minutes.
How will confidentiality be maintained?
If you do not live alone there are a number of things you might do to maintain privacy:
Plan your sessions when the rest of your household might be out or in bed (in the case of young children)
Set up your phone, tablet or laptop in a quiet room where you can shut the door
Ask others that you live with to turn on the television, radio or music so that you do not fear being overheard
Use headphones so that only you can hear what I am saying
Consider alternative private spaces. As long as you can still get a wi-fi or internet signal then we can have our session
To maintain confidentiality at my end I will use earbud headphones if I am talking to you from my home counselling room. You can then rest assured what you are saying will only be heard by myself.
